Meet the 18 teams taking the stage at the 2022 Venture Showcase!
After much anticipation, our lineup for the 2022 Venture Showcase has been finalized! Designed to highlight our early-stage venture ecosystem from up and coming ventures making headway to those creating traction in acceleration, this event will give you a preview of our entire community, connecting you with venture teams and our wider innovation network.
We are excited for you to meet some of our newest teams solving problems across climate, human health and social impact in our Ones-to-Watch and Sneak-a-Peek categories. Learn who is raising in our Ready-to-Raise group with new and returning ventures taking the stage at Robson Square!
Ventures were selected based off criteria defined by our team and Evaluation Committee consisting of Lead Entrepreneur in Residence Chang Han, Entrepreneur in Residence and Head of the Social Venture Studio Angela Hamilton, Entrepreneur in Residence Michele Wallcraft and Entrepreneur and entrepreneurship@UBC Mentor, Hiroki Kudo, moderated by Entrepreneur in Residence Head of Venture Growth Strategy Michelle Sklar.
As always, the Evaluation Committee had their work cut out for them with an influx of applications from high caliber ventures across our programming and stages. It was an incredibly competitive opportunity and we applaud all of the applicants for participating in the process!
Impact at the center
As a mission driven organization, much of the evaluation process revolved around impact; going deep on what problem the venture is addressing, how it aligns with more broader UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how the teams themselves think about diversity, equity and inclusion. Of our finalists, each group identified at minimum 1 SDG that aligned with their solution, with 55% of the ventures addressing 3 or more. 50% of the total SDGs listed by venture teams cover goal numbers 3, 4, 8, 9, and 10 (good health and wellbeing, quality education, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure and reduced inequalities) and 15 of the 17 UN SDGs are being addressed through our presenter’s solutions.
Each venture identified equity, diversity and inclusion as central to their mission and values, many noting the importance of inclusivity within their solution itself or the intersectional makeup of their team, prioritizing diversity across gender, backgrounds, ability and more. Of the ventures selected, 50% are female founded or female led.
We ended up with a line up of 18 ventures, 6 in each Ones-to-Watch, Sneak-a-Peek and Ready-to-Raise categories. Meet this year’s Venture Showcase participants!
