entrepreneurship@UBC is excited to welcome 36 new teams joining our 45th cohort of Venture Founder CORE and Lab2Launch! As the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) embedded incubator/accelerator program, we work with entrepreneurs at the outset of their journey, supporting them through rigorous weekly training and deep mentorship from our pool of 200+ mentors, providing access to space, funding and networks so they can succeed.
Venture building at this stage is characterized by steadfast highs and lows. Often remarked on as the most risky part of venture creation, teams are iterating on their MVP (minimum viable product), finding their target market and building their central team, whilst seeking critical partnerships and support like that offered from entrepreneurship@UBC.
This new cohort comes from across the UBC landscape from the Faculty of Arts, Applied Science, Forestry, UBC Sauder, and more, speaking to the diversity of ventures in the program. Our ventures are pursuing a wide variety of innovative solutions, including helping folks age with dignity, building sustainable cat trees from cardboard, delivering lipid nanoparticle therapeutics, and creating insulated, plant-based, compostable outerwear. The wide breadth of industry verticals highlights the trends — health, sustainability, plant-based alternatives — we are seeing coming out of the academic environment and a top 40 research university like UBC.
As part of our community, these new teams will be working closely with CORE Stream Lead and Lead of the Social Venture Studio, Angela Hamilton and Interim Managing Director and Associate Director, Lab2Launch, Dr. Sean Lumb.
Recently, entrepreneurship@UBC welcomed two additional team members to further support our venture cohorts; Lynn Kulli, Lab2Launch Venture Activator, and former mentor and Venture Development Specialist Intern - summer 2020 - with entrepreneurship@UBC, as well as Smruti Savkur, Engagement Specialist, who recently graduated with her MBA from Sauder after working with entrepreneurship@UBC as a Venture Development Specialist Intern summer 2022.
