What A Year! Let's Recap 2018.

UBC ventures made incredible progress and had some of their biggest wins in 2018! Read below to find out about what some of our favourite moments of the last year were.

2018 marked another exciting year as we pause to think (and catch our breath!) about all the achievements that have occurred in the past 12 months.

We want to take a moment to celebrate all the incredible entrepreneurs, Mentors, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, partners and the surrounding support staff that make e@UBC what it is. Thank you!

A few of our top venture highlights:

• We welcomed 47 new ventures in 2018! This year a total of 47 ventures were accepted into UBC's incubator program, which include the Life Science, Core Technology and Social Impact streams.

• 5 ventures will be graduating from HATCH: Congratulations to the following ventures who will soon be graduating from HATCH (e@UBC’s venture accelerator program): Anomotion, Illusense, Acuva, ExcelSense, Vital Mechanics and Mazdis!

• New Innovation space opened at Robson Square. In June, UBC launched a dedicated hub in its downtown Robson Square location to support entrepreneurship. Since opening, it has become home to 10+ emerging e@UBC ventures.

• Pitches & Pitchers hosted 50+ local investors. In November, 16 HATCH ventures delivered a 30-second pitch to 50+ local investors at UBC Robson Square. 

• UBCO launched an innovation hub: UBC Okanagan recently launched a new innovation hub dedicated to helping ventures meet mentors, expand their professional network, access resources and integrate with the larger startup ecosystem in Kelowna.

What's in store for 2019:

Here are just a few of the many events and engagement opportunities we have planned for the new year, so mark your calendars!

• Applications for the Life Science and Core Tech incubator programs are open.  Calling all life science and technology entrepreneurs! Applications for our Core Tech  program close on December 30th. Applications for our Life Science  program close January 11th. Apply now.

• Welcome to our new cohort of Core Tech, Social Impact, Life Science and HATCH ventures! In January, we will be welcoming 30 new ventures into our Core Technology, Life Science and Social Venture incubator programs and 7 new ventures into our HATCH accelerator program.

• MBA internship recruitment to begin. Ever dreamed about working for a startup? MBA intern recruitment will start in January to support the ventures that are currently enrolled in our programming.  Read what our previous interns had to say.

• Our annual Investor Night is back! If you are an investor, you won’t want to miss this year’s cohort of HATCH ventures delivering their best pitch on May 8th. To get on the invite list, give us a shout at communications@entrepreneurship.ubc.ca.

• We will be opening a new venture space! Stay tuned in January, when we will be announcing all the details.
