Welcome to our new cohort of HATCH Ventures!
We just welcomed our newest HATCH cohort in January! Watch the video and read on to discover all about our new ventures and how e@UBC has helped them throughout their process.
In January 2019, our new cohort of HATCH ventures joined our collaborative startup community. The HATCH venture accelerator program was established in 2016 as a joint effort between UBC’s Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems (ICICS) and entrepreneurship@UBC. To this date it has served over 30 ventures.
For those involved in the program, HATCH provides more than physical office and lab space. The vision of establishing HATCH was to provide promising ventures with guidance, a community, and mentorship to develop and optimize their technologies and businesses. HATCH aims to provide entrepreneurs with the tools and guidance to succeed in the rapidly evolving entrepreneurial landscape.

“I graduated from the Sauder School of Business and I feel very lucky to be a UBC alumni. We had the privilege to go through a number of the different e@UBC programs when we were first building our business.” says Kerry Costello, COO of HeadCheck Health. “It became apparent to us that HATCH is another resource for us to tap into the fantastic mentors that are available and to reconnect with our network here at UBC.”
HeadCheck Health benefited in more than one way from the startup community at UBC. It initially started as a class project and has now partnered with BC Hockey League to effectively detect concussions in players.

The latest cohort welcomed seven new incoming ventures, spanning a vast array of disciplines such as computer science, chemistry, and medicine. Equally diverse, the ventures touch upon an expansive range of industry sectors, including a concussion management system, footwear intelligence metric system, and more.

Cuprous Pharmaceuticals: Cuprous’ technology is focused on developing therapeutics that can engage the immune system to fight cancer.
BarrelWise Technologies: BarrelWise builds tools that enable winemakers to practice their art more efficiently. Starting with the process of wine ageing,
