March 22nd, 2021, Vancouver, BC, Canada: entrepreneurship@UBC, a leading university incubator and accelerator, today announced the launch of its Human Health Venture (H²V) Studio, designed to leverage the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) deep pool of research by transforming human health innovations to impact through venture creation. This launch marks the program’s own evolution as an academic incubator/accelerator, creating specialized verticals to work with innovators across industries.

UBC is one of the world’s top 40 research universities, recognized for its leadership in research excellence and global impact. In 2021, it was ranked 29th in the world by QS World University Rankings in life sciences and medicine, specifically. The Human Health Venture Studio supports UBC researchers and scientists developing a scientific or technological innovation or disruption based in human health. The Studio works with researchers and scientists through a collaborative approach, leveraging entrepreneurship@UBC’s community of academic and industry partners and mentors to create widespread impact through new venture creation. Through in-depth venture building programming, access to lab and office space and advisory teams, including entrepreneurship@UBC’s own bench of Entrepreneurs in Residence, entrepreneurs tap into the healthcare landscape’s collective expertise and resources, working to catalyze their startup opportunity.

entrepreneurship@UBC launched its Venture Studio concept last year with the announcement of its Climate Venture Studio that supports entrepreneurs working on solutions to the climate emergency. An extension of its foundational CORE and Lab2Launch Venture Building programs, the Studios act as an additional layer of specialized programming, mentorship and community to help create curated opportunities for ventures across industry verticals.

As part of the Innovation UBC network, entrepreneurship@UBC helps translate knowledge and discoveries into social, economic and environmental impact, building new ventures that drive global change. Led by Dr. Sean Lumb, Associate Director, the new H²V Studio will unlock access to UBC and the wider landscape’s thriving human health community:

The H²V Studio will leverage entrepreneurship@UBC’s legacy of helping UBC innovators to build human health ventures based on the University’s incredible research and innovation. The studio will provide specialized support and access for human health innovators, creating a home for their ventures amongst the larger ecosystem and opportunity to make a real impact for people everywhere through venture creation.

- Dr. Sean Lumb, Associate Director, Lab2Launch, Human Health Venture Studio Lead

The expansion of the Studio concept marks a milestone for the program, demonstrating the breadth of their offerings and place as an academic incubator/accelerator program in our innovation ecosystem:

Human health affects everyone and we are thrilled to be announcing the launch of our H²V Studio. The innovations coming from UBC are absolute game-changers for the human health sector, requiring entrepreneurship@UBC’s collective decades worth of venture building expertise to get research innovations to market and make positive, transformative change.”
