Many successful entrepreneurs credit their success to mentors and coaches that spent time with them early in their entrepreneurial journeys. e@UBC is piloting different ways of facilitating opportunities for budding entrepreneurs to gain access to mentor relationships, be it through formal matchmaking or environments that allow for peer mentoring to occur naturally.
The mentorship function threads throughout the overall e@UBC initiative. Students are interested in guidance from very early stages of validating an idea through preparing pitches for investment and then preparing to meet with and secure that first customer.
Mentorship at e@UBC is unstructured in nature. We believe that the best mentor/protégé relationships evolve naturally. Therefore, e@UBC is not prescriptive in how mentorship occurs or what advice or support is provided. Primarily the program seeks to identify specific opportunities where mentors can provide tangible value to UBC students, make the introduction and then allow the relationship to flourish.
