Graham Lee Innovation Centre

The Graham Lee Innovation Centre within the Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre is a hub for the university’s core innovation and entrepreneurship activities. Thanks to the generous contribution of UBC alumnus and entrepreneur Graham S. Lee, BCom 1987, entrepreneurship@UBC has a dedicated space for UBC ventures and companies to network, collaborate and develop as entrepreneurs.

Graham made the decision to support the Innovation Centre because of his strong belief in entrepreneurship and innovation as the economic backbone of a community. Many great innovators, discoveries and ideas have come from UBC. The Innovation Centre builds on this legacy by fostering new ways of looking at traditional businesses and aiding the development of disruptive industries that benefit UBC students and alumni, and create a better future for Canada and the world.

Here, we further the journey of UBC entrepreneurs by hosting programming, workshops and events, and offer hot desking and meeting room space for teams who are part of our venture community.

The HATCH Venture Builder is an initiative led by the Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems (ICICS) and entrepreneurship@UBC. ICICS provides an environment where ventures can both technically de-risk their innovation in the world class HATCH Makerspace, as well as build their first teams with collaborative office spaces while participating in HATCH Venture Builder.

Here, ventures have access to advanced equipment allowing ventures to build prototypes and material innovations that will take their venture to the next level. Machinery includes multiple 3D printers, water jet cutters and plasma cutting tables, with ongoing additions thanks to the support of generous donors. The HATCH Makerspace provides on-site expertise for manufacturing and machinery, as well as safety and training for ventures in R&D.

Ventures who are a part of HATCH are eligible to work out of private office spaces within ICICS as they build their first teams and prepare for launch and growth.
