After hours of tireless overtime, the Stratobots at Pixile Studios have completed a huge new update for Stratosphere: Multiplayer Defense.

On Thursday, May 16th, the game featured by Apple in more than 40 countries, will be dropping in price for the first time ever to celebrate the launch of a major new content update.

The Stratosphere monsters have been trained to say over 100 new phrases as they walk to their doom, three new arenas are ready for battle, and some crazy new modifiers and costumes are arriving in the Stash. The new Stratosphere will also allow players to challenge their friends through Game Center and make their friends post hilarious messages on Facebook or Twitter when they beat them with the redesigned #Stratobets system.

The new Stratosphere includes:

3 new levels, 3 new modifiers (‘Splosions, Randomizer and Circle of Life) and 3 new costumes (zombies, monocles and radioactive waste)

100 new phrases for the monsters to say

Game Center challenges

Smarter and more devious Stratobot AI with new ways to react to different play styles

Completely new #Stratobets system, making it far easier for friends to make social “bets” where the loser of a match has to tweet or post an embarrassing message of their opponent’s choice

Reduced costs of items in the Stash so new content can be unlocked even faster

Improved balancing and bug fixes

Air kisses and hugs

Even with all this newness the Stratobots still managed to reduce the amount of disk space the game takes up on an iPad. New players will be able to get the game and update on the App Store for the reduced price of $0.99 for a limited time and current players will be able to get the update for free.

“We were blown away by the community’s response to Stratosphere,” Pixile’s co-founder Michael Silverwood said of the game’s launch, “so we want to reward our players with hours of new fun.”

“We began working on Stratosphere as a passion project during university when we realized that the iPad was the perfect device for boardgame-like multiplayer experiences. It has grown so much in two years, and this Thursday it’s taking another big step forward.”

Check out what the game is all about and some of the new content coming your way in the video below:

Players can download the new Stratosphere on Thursday, May 16th on the App Store at: https://itunes.apple.com/app/stratosphere-multiplayer-defense/id590214853?mt=1

Over 3 million Canadians sustain an injury every year. The direct and indirect cost of these injuries to Canadian society is approximately $19 billion dollars.

At Axon Engineers and Scientist Inc. (Axon) we are developing a modular cloud solution for athlete/patient support teams in the sports and healthcare industries to optimize the management of an injured individual. Optimization of the injury management process will significantly reduce the financial burden of injury on Canadian society and improve the overall health outcome for injured individuals.

Approximately 40,000 Canadians and 300,000 Americans report a concussion every year. We recognize that concussion is a provincial, national and global problem with health outcomes varying from minor headaches to fatality. The first module being developed by our team is for optimization of the concussion injury management process. Our goal within the ecosystem of concussion injury is to mitigate the short and long term health risks of single and multiple concussive injuries and to provide a “best-practice” methodology for managing individuals exhibiting symptoms of concussion.

Speaker Profile

Chip Wilson

Founder & Chairman, lululemon athletica
Founder, whil

As a child, there were two dominant forces in my life: sewing and sports. My Mom taught me all about stitching, seams, and how garments come together. Both Mom and Dad were athletes too, and they inspired my competitive spirit. I spent my days at the pool, as a competitive swimmer, learning what it means to “go fast” and find that extra 20 percent.

Now, in the world, I’m a businessman and retail entrepreneur. I am inspired by technical design for athletics, and have built my entire business career on technically superior apparel design, made beautiful. In my heart however, I’m still an athlete who likes to have fun and live healthy. And this is what has inspired my entire life.

Years back (1998), I founded the yoga-inspired brand, lululemon athletica, in Vancouver, BC. Built on the foundation of “function made beautiful” and an innovative retail and branding model that believes in giving without expectation, product education, and authentic relationships with our guests and communities. Funny thing happened. It worked. And I loved every minute of it. I now continue as Chairman of the Board of Directors, helping shape “what’s next” for lululemon.

What set me up for lululemon was Westbeach, the surf/skate/snowboard brand I launched in 1979. Wins and losses, ups and downs. I went through it all and went on to sell the brand in 1997, taking with me everything I learned while in the trenches, a little money, and most importantly, the art of goal setting.

My big learning was this: life is never a straight line. It gets messy and complex sometimes. If it didn’t, I probably wasn’t playing big enough. But when I know where I’m going, and I find a moment of calm amidst my daily chaos, it all pays off. Learning to take that time out, to reset and recharge, paid dividends in my life. Learning how to be present, to live in the moment, allowed me to maximize my creativity and that is what my latest project is all about. Whil (whil.com) is the new face of meditation – 60 seconds to calm the mind, make an immediate measurable commitment to do something great, and find the power to achieve it.

As a former competitive swimmer, football player, wrestler, squash player, and Kona Ironman finisher, I now keep it going by climbing local Vancouver mountain, Grouse Grind, more times than my age each year. This gives me a healthy body to keep the creative juices going.

However, my greatest achievement is my family. I am the proud father of five boys and am happily married to my wife, Shannon. We live in Vancouver, one of the happiest & healthiest cities on the planet.

UBC students get 20% off with promo code: UBCstudent

Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur? The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success? Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures.

Startup Weekend Vancouver is a 54-hour mentored event where hardware-engineers, software-developers, graphic-designers, and business people come together, pitch ideas, form teams, build products, and create startups all in a single weekend. The event culminates in a competition where these newly formed startups present their venture to judges for fame and prizes.

This Disruptive Technology themed event is focused on hardware engineering and disruptive innovation. It will be coordinated with several complimentary events, such as startup methodologies workshops, technology bootcamps by Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla at PolyglotConf, and innovative speaker events. The weekend will be followed by an SW-Next event to help mentor startups beyond the weekend.

In addition to the Startup Weekend being held May 31 – June 2, there are two events leading up to the weekend, to get you ready to go. On May 28 there will be a Startup Methodologies Bootcamp, where participants can get a crash course in the method behind the madness in creating a new startup. On May 30th is the Pitch Like a Pro workshop, where Alexandra Greenhill (of MyBestHelper) will explain how to perfect your startup’s elevator pitch.

Startup Weekends are only held in Vancouver a few times each year, so be sure to check this one out! Visit http://vancouver.startupweekend.org/ for more information, or to regsiter.
