Insights from growing a global family-run company with the quadruple bottom line: people-planet-profit-passion engrained in its DNA

Arjan Stephens was named one of Business in Vancouver’s ‘Top 40 under 40’ in 2012. He is the second generation of the Nature’s Path organic foods company, a business that he says was “ founded on a hope and a dream and a $1,500 loan”. 30 years later the family-run venture is turning over $300m a year and selling into over 50 countries, while still being driven by the same values of people-planet-profit-passion, and by the same vision of leaving the earth better than they found it.

In his role of Executive VP of Sales and Marketing, Arjan is responsible for leading Nature’s Path’s strategic direction in regards to product development, communications, sales, advertising, and packaging. In addition to the invaluable life-lessons learned from his grandfather, organic farmer Rupert Stephens, and his parents Arran and Ratana Stephens (founders of Nature’s Path), Arjan holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Queen’s University and an MBA from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

In a fireside-style conversation Arjan will share his insights and lessons learned while leading his team through integrated consumer awareness campaigns, grassroots organic gardening programs, an expansion into the European market, and the acquisition of Que Pasa Mexican Foods. Join us for an inspiring chat about how this successful entrepreneur is constantly identifying innovative business strategies while staying true to tradition, company values and culture.
