News: e@UBC Kickoff Event this Thursday!

 

Have you ever considered becoming an entrepreneur? Would you like to learn what it means to be an entrepreneur? Would you like to get involved with entrepreneurial activties on campus? If you’re looking for the answer to any of these questions, attend Entrerpreneurship@UBC’s first event of the school year – Want to be an Entrepreneur?

You’ll have the chance to listen to and interact with some of the top UBC Alumni entrepreneurs who are currently working on their startups both locally and internationally. You will also be able to meet the E@UBC staff and student/alumni board members to learn about entrepreneurship opportunities on campus. After the event, you can meet the speakers and other attendees as well as members from entrepreneurship related clubs on campus. See below for a list of speakers and their bios.

We will also be featuring entrepreneurship related clubs and opportunities. Reps from these groups will be in attendance as well. This includes: E@UBC incubator, E-Projects, Enterprize, the Next 36, and more! If you have an opportunity you’d like to share, send an email to info@entrepreneurship.ubc.ca.

Brian Wong, Kiip.me

Brian Wong is the co-founder and CEO of Kiip, a category-creating mobile rewards network that is redefining mobile advertising. Kiip has raised $15.4 million in funding to date and is listed by Forbes as one of the 4 Hot Online Ad Companies to Put on Your Watch List, and been named to the Dow Jones FasTech50 List.

Called the youngest person to ever receive venture capital funding by TechCrunch and the Wall Street Journal, Brian received his Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia at age 18, after skipping four K-12 grades. He has been recognized with many awards for his accomplishments and leadership.

Fraser Hall, reconinstruments.com

Fraser Hall is a lifelong entrepreneur, activist and technology leader.  From an early career in computer engineering to recent entrepreneurial, philanthropic and personal successes, Fraser has an appetite for identifying opportunities and successfully capitalizing upon them.  Fraser holds a Computer Engineering degree from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA from Sauder School of Business.   He is currently the Co-founder and Chairman of Recon Instruments, Co-Founder and Director of FillTheContainer.com, President of Hall Pacific and serves in an advisory capacity to a variety of Vancouver based tech companies as well as being a regular Captain for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.


Ray Kanani, SmartPics.ca

Ray is the President of SMART Pics Media, a powerful marketing tool designed to build an online community of brand ambassadors. SMART Pics product have been used by Mashable, Microsoft, Gilt.com, Variety Magazine, L’Oreal, Porsche, Lexus, the NBA, NFL and NHL.

Ray volunteers his time at the YMCA as a mentor for the Youth Means Business program where he delivers workshops and one-on-one consulting with participants. Ray is a visionary and is fascinated by human behaviour. His personal blog is filled with posts related to motivation, and identity.

Jordan Menashy, 10Sheet.com

Jordan is the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of 10Sheet, the modern bookkeeping service that frees you from costly bookkeepers and complicated software. 10Sheet was part of the exclusive Techstars cohort in NY this past spring and recent launched their product during Techstars NYC Demo Day. Jordan spends his days envisioning, designing, validating, and iterating products for 10sheet.

Justin Wong, Battlefy.com

Justin is a gamer. In his spare time, he’s also an entrepreneur and the co-founder of Battlefy. Battlefy is a platform for organizing, playing and watching eSports (competitive play of video games). Having graduated from UBC then worked at companies such as Research in Motion and Electronic Arts, he soon realized how much cooler it is being an entrepreneur.
